The Location: Taconic Biosciences is seeking an In Vivo Technologist in this onsite position at the Rensselaer, NY, AL2 site. Qualified candidates must be active employees of the PRM team.

The Pay: $24 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors. These factors include geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions and could exceed the advertised salary range, however, please note that the upper end of the range is not guaranteed to be offered.

The Schedule: Monday – Friday. While training the starting time will be between 7am-8am, after training flexible starting hours between 5am-7am.

The Role:
The In Vivo Technologist will perform various in vivo bio-methods and animal care procedures in support of research being conducted within the Services program. This role will perform these procedures in their entirety on a regular basis and must be able to generate quality results in a timely manner.  Following procedures and protocols, with complete documentation of all work will be a must in this role.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Performs various in vivo bio-methods, such as IV, IP, SQ injection; in addition to blood collection and tissue harvests.
  • May perform surgical procedures per customer order and according to established procedures.
  • Maintain aseptic technique during procedures
  • Follow procedure for dress, personal protective equipment, and/or showering.
  • Ensure high standards of animal welfare are met.
  • Report instances of inhumane instances of animal care.
  • Document procedures and observations according to SOP.
  • Euthanize animals, when required.
  • Screen post-operative animals to select appropriate candidates for shipment based on procedure, order specifications, and health of animals.
  • Collect tissues and/or fluids pre- and post-mortem from animals and process per protocol.
  • Assist in performing procedures and record data from special project orders.
  • Perform tasks for special projects.
  • Perform weekend/holiday observations of the animal colony (on rotating schedule) checking all feed, water, recent surgery, and performing various non-surgical duties.
  • Frequently handle a variety of drugs and chemicals, often hazardous or of an unknown nature.
  • Perform husbandry in various housing paradigms.
  • Execute project instructions such as: breeding diagrams, Project Charters, etc.
  • Maintains accurate records per project requirements in various databases.
  • Maintains detailed records of all procedures executed, samples collected, and samples received and shipped/transferred.
  • Travels as needed for training, and sample delivery/pickup.
  • Contribute to the development of new products and services via participation in pilot, validation, and other preliminary studies
  • Revise or update Standard Operating Procedures
  • Act as back up for other positions as needed
Education and Experience:
  • Active employee of Taconic Biosciences Pre-Clinical Model (PRM) team
  • Associate degree (A. A.) from two-year college or technical school, or technical/managerial experience at an equivalent level.
  • AALAS certifications, LVT/CVT preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience and or training
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization
