Location: Taconic Biosciences is seeking a Senior Supervisor Microbiology to join our dedicated Health Diagnostics team at our Rensselaer, NY site. Sponsorship for citizenship is not available for this position.
The Pay Range: $65,000 - $70,000. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors. These factors include, but are not limited to, geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions, with this the upper end of the range is not always likely to be offered.
The Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm (some flexibility available)

The Senior Supervisor Microbiology will oversee technical and operational aspects of Microbiology, including review of positive findings. They will supervise and mentor the Microbiology, Laboratory Staff through day-to-day engagement, regular 1:1 meetings, growth and development opportunities, and empowering them to be their best selves. With a solution-oriented mindset, the Senior Supervisor will lead process improvement initiatives, provide training, support to technicians, and develop metrics. Attention to detail, positive leadership, and organization in a fast-paced environment is a must in this role.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, supervises and mentors’ direct reports.
- Triage workflow for Microbiology and Environmental Monitoring.
- Reviews microbiology findings for all accession and testing types.
- Trains and/or oversees training of laboratory staff in microbial testing methodologies and techniques.
- Ensure all required resources (facilities, equipment, personnel, supplies etc.) are available proactively and maintained to meet demands.
- Continually monitor and improve efficiency and cost effectiveness of microbial testing.
- Assure appropriate quality and regulatory components are in place and maintained for all microbial testing functions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related field; or equivalent technical/managerial experience at a similar level.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and/or training in microbiology or a related field.
- Proven supervisory experience, demonstrating effective leadership and mentorship capabilities.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Previous experience in a technical or specialized field requiring extended training to perform a wide range of assignments and resolve non-standard problems.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to approach challenges with a solution-oriented mindset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- The work primarily involves sedentary activities, with the employee typically seated comfortably while performing tasks, occasionally requiring walking, standing, or bending.
- May involve occasional carrying of items such as papers, books, or small parts, and driving an automobile.
